A fish tale…
One night, Dame Osier, Queen of Smelt,
Before the sea god, Aeries, knelt…
“Dear god, we need fish!
Please grant me this wish!”

I think an Osier is a kind of wicker basket, so I am interested in the (possible) connection.
Good classic style David.

Don’t worry! Dame Osier will return. In the meantime, you’re right: un panier d’osier = a wicker basket. A wicker basket is handy, by the way, for collecting fish! But there’s more to it: “Dame Osier” is an anagram of “Osmeridae”–the scientific name for smelt. This makes sense because Dame Osier is the Queen of Smelt (specifically, the Isle of Smelt).
