When Bacchus prevails, a bishop’s mind fails…
That drunk is none other than Bishop Malone.
He answers to Bacchus–to Bacchus alone!
We’ve seen “Holy Grace”
Slap wine on his face
And dip sacred wafers in eau de cologne!

’Tis the season for trees to fall…in love! A six-part limerick…
Tom Bolo thought pining for love was all wrong
Till Ambur, an Oak Island girl, came along.
She tingled his tree limbs
Like holiday tree hymns.
And so he barked out an Oak Isthmus tree song.
That’s not what a knotty old tree stump would sing.
But Tom, pure of heartwood, cared not for a fling.
“She’s nattily wood-dressed,
And gracefully leaf-blessed,
But lacks the pure joy of a bright new year’s ring.”
A clear isla view let Tom Bolo behold
The warming effect of his song on the cold
That loneliness brings to
A tree no one sings to.
His song wrapped around her its warm boughs of gold.
The gallant tree reckoned his song would bear fruit
As soon as he donned his Oak Isthmus tree suit.
The dazzling display of
A starry-eyed tree’s love
Would surely enchant her right down to the root.
One long winter’s night that the Tree Angels bless,
Tom Bolo proposed. Ambur smiled and said yes.
An Arbor Day wedding
Saw forceful winds heading
Towards them! They promised a change of address.
Tom Bolo and Ambur were swept far away.
Their branches entangled, they drift to this day.
The sea is their home, and
They’ll never reach dry land,
But sing of tied islands and love gone astray…

The monster inside…
Fatigue, chronic sickness, or age
Is often enough to enrage
The creature behind
Our civilized mind
That constantly gnaws at its cage

One romance too many…
Exhausted, a popular writer in France
Put on the back burner his latest romance,
Then one lazy day
Retired “les idées”
His book’s tired plot needed for it to advance.

When trees date…
Said Elmer, a tree, “Scary movies are good!”
“I think,” replied Ashley, “you misunderstood.
I don’t get the groovies
When watching Saw movies!
But if you don’t mind dating petrified wood…”

Indifference is a cold peace of mind…
Miss Paxton predictably shrugs.
“Those drunkards that swear by their jugs,
Those dealers of drugs,
And back alley thugs
Grew up without kisses or hugs.”
