Kate, the Psychic Octopus…
You’ve heard that our national soccer team mascot’s a splendid tentacular mass.
The morning of game day, we offered her mussels in flag-labeled boxes of glass.
And Kate, being famously psychic,
Predicted we’d win on a high kick.
The octopus muscled the lid off our box. Consequently, the win came to pass!

A splendid ditty on the continued octopi theme, and it’s only Tuesday, you are spoiling us 🙂

Glad to spoil you, Eddy. As you may have guessed, the limerick was inspired by Paul le Poulpe, an octopus whose rise to fame you can read about here: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/07/12/remembering-paul-the-psychic-octopus-germany-s-2010-world-cup-soothsayer.html

Now that you mention it I do remember the telepathic octopus, although I think England may have been better served by a player with eight legs 🙂

I remembered the World Cup octopus, so got this one straight off. Well-done David, you managed a sports-themed limerick about an octopus. You don’t find those every day!
Best wishes, Pete.

Squidward Tentacles, the anthropomorphic octopus that stars in the SpongeBob SquarePants movies, is reportedly up in arms about my decision to exclude him from these limericks. I think his attitude really sucks, don’t you Pete?
